The Arun Jaitley Stadium is one of the most iconic cricket grounds located in New Delhi, India.

Established in 1883, the stadium was earlier known as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium and is the second oldest international cricket stadium in India after the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Located near the Kotla Fort, the  Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium was renamed to Arun Jaitley Stadium in September 2019 in memory of former Finance Minister of India and former Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Arun Jaitley.

The venue is the home ground of the Delhi cricket team and Delhi franchise in the Indian T20 League and Women’s T20 League.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium hosted its first international match, a Test between India and West Indies in November 1948.

Almost three decades later, it staged its first One-Day International (ODI) that featured India and Sri Lanka in September 1982.

The stadium hosted its first T20 international played between England and Afghanistan during the T20 World Cup 2016. Under the leadership of Eoin Morgan, England won the T20I by 15 runs. Since then, the stadium has staged seven T20 internationals in men’s cricket.

The Eoin Morgan-led England later bowled Pakistan for 271 in 40.4 overs to register an 84-run victory. With the impressive win, England clinched the four-match ODI series 3-1.

Lowest team total

The Namibia national cricket team recorded the lowest team total at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the 50-over format. During an ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 match in February 2023, Namibia were bundled out for 91 against hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ruben Trumpelmann top-scored for Namibia with 30 off 41 balls. For UAE, Zahoor Khan, Aayan Afzal Khan and Karthik Meiyappan bagged three wickets each. UAE later chased down the target on a tricky pitch in 33 overs and secured a nail-biting one-wicket win.

Most runs

Scotland cricketer Richie Berrington has scored the most runs at this venue in ODI format. Between 2015 and 2022, the right-handed batter has amassed 390 runs in eight matches at an average of 55.71. He has slammed one hundred and three fifties at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in ODI cricket. He smashed an unbeaten 114 off 127 against Papua New Guinea during their ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 clash in April 2022.

Most wickets

Legendary Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi picked the most wickets at this ground in ODI cricket. The leg-spinner scalped 25 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 23.72 and an economy of 4.60. He registered his best bowling figures of 6/38 at this venue against Australia in April 2009.

During an Asia Cup Group B clash in 2018, Mushfiqur Rahim scored 144 off 150 balls against Sri Lanka to guide his side to 261. The wicketkeeper-batter’s scintillating knock included 11 fours and four sixes. Bangladesh later bowled out Sri Lanka for 124 to register a massive 137-run victory in Dubai.

Best bowling figures

Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi has the best bowling figures at this venue in ODI cricket in April 2009. The former leg-spinner recorded brilliant figures of 6/38 to bowl out Australia for 168 in 38.5 overs. Afridi dismissed Brad Haddin, Shane Watson, Andrew Symonds, Callum Ferguson, Nathan Bracken and Stuart Clark to restrict Australia to a below par total. Pakistan won the match by four wickets and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Highest partnership

India’s Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan hold the record for the highest partnership at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in ODI cricket. Chasing 238 against arch-rivals Pakistan in an Asia Cup 2018 Super Four clash, Rohit and Shikhar forged a 210-run stand for the opening wicket to help India inch closer to victory. While Shikhar scored 114, Rohit remained unbeaten on 111. India thrashed Pakistan by nine wickets in Dubai to secure a comfortable win.

Ever since the start of the Indian T20 League in 2008, there have been a handful of players who went on to become mainstays for their respective teams through their performances with bat and ball.

While performing consistently year after year is by no means an easy task, some talents have gone on to defy logic by putting their best put forward season after season and helping their respective teams in their quest for glory.

T20 cricket by definition comes across as a batter’s game. Furthermore, the fact that Indian T20 League matches are played on flat batting-friendly surfaces in India only further enhances the superiority of the willow over leather in such conditions.

As a result, it’s not much of a surprise that plenty of batters have accumulated tons of runs to their credit while playing in the league over the years. Here, we have a look at the players who have scored the most runs in Indian T20 League history.

Most runs in Indian T20 League

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has only played for one Indian T20 League franchise in the form of Team Bangalore from 2008 to the present. Over the years, he has produced plenty of top performances with the bat, and as a result, he’s the player with the most runs in Indian T20 League history. The only player with more than 7,000 runs in the Indian T20 League, Virat Kohli has smashed five centuries and 50 fifties in the league. He also scored the most runs in a single Indian T20 League season and over 35 in the fast-paced and high-octane league where batters don’t get much time to get their eye in.

Shikhar Dhawan

Like Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan has been a part of every edition of the Indian T20 League since its start in 2008. Unlike Kohli, though, Shikhar Dhawan has played for several teams over the years. He’s represented the likes of Team Mumbai, Team Deccan, Team Hyderabad, Team Delhi, and Team Punjab. Thanks to his longevity and consistency with the bat while representing these sides, the elegant left-hander holds the distinction of being the player with the second-most runs in Indian T20 League history. He’s made more than 6,500 runs while playing in the league and has two centuries as well as 50 fifties to his name. Dhawan also won the Indian T20 League with Team Hyderabad in 2016.

David Warner

One of just a few international players to feature in the list for most runs in Indian T20 League, David Warner is third as far as runs scored in this league are concerned. The belligerent left-hander has represented Team Delhi as well as Team Hyderabad and has amassed more than 6,000 runs at an impressive average of above 40. He’s also made four centuries and 59 fifties, which is the most half-centuries by any player in league history. Like Dhawan, Warner won the Indian T20 League trophy with Team Hyderabad in 2016.

Tamil Nadu batter Narayan Jagadeesan smashed a scintillating 141-ball 277 against Arunachal Pradesh in a group phase match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 on November 21 to record the highest individual score in List A cricket history.

Jagadeesan opened the batting for the Tamil Nadu side against Arunachal Pradesh in a group-stage match. The 26-year-old batter took the opposition bowlers to the cleaners, helping his team post 506/2 - the highest team score in List A cricket.

In an innings which witnessed 25 fours and 15 maximums, Jagadeesan etched his name in the record books, as he also became the first player to score five consecutive centuries in the 50-over format.

Courtesy his 277, Narayan Jagadeesan broke the long-standing record held by Alistair Brown, who had held the perch since 2002. Brown scored a 160-ball 268, laced with 30 fours and 12 sixes,  while playing for Surrey in the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy in England’s First Class domestic circuit.

The encounter, which saw a total of 867 runs scored over two innings saw Ali’s Surrey team get the better of Glamorgan by nine runs in a thriller.

Team India veteran Rohit Sharma is third on the list of players with the highest individual scores in List A cricket.

Rohit went berserk in the fourth ODI of the Sri Lanka tour of India 2014 to score 173-ball 264 with the help of 33 fours and nine maximums, which is also the highest individual score in one-day internationals.

ODIs, domestic competition matches, where the number of overs in an innings per team is between forty and sixty, and 50-over matches involving countries who have not achieved the official ODI status from the International Cricket Council (ICC) are all classified under List A cricket.

Australian batter D'Arcy Short stands fourth on the list of players with the highest individual scores in List A cricket.

In a JLT One-Day Cup match 2018 match, both the Western Australia openers were dismissed cheaply. D'Arcy Short stepped in to steady the ship and played a devastating innings of 257 off 148 balls, featuring 15 fours and an astonishing 23 sixes, to help his team reach 387.

Thereafter, Andrew Tye’s six-wicket haul rattled Queensland, who were bundled out for 271 and Western Australia emerged victorious by 116 runs.

Another Indian to make it to the group of players with the highest individual scores in List A cricket is Shikhar Dhawan.

Shortly after making his memorable Test debut against Australia in March 2013, Dhawan was selected for India A team to play in a tri-Series in August later that year.

In the sixth match of that series, the southpaw found himself at his free-flowing best, scoring a destructive 150-ball 248, which guided India A to a 39-run win over South Africa A.
