The Premier League Golden Boot is an annual football award bestowed to the leading goalscorer in the Premier League.

Since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, there have been 26 different players to win the Premier League Golden Boot in the last three decades.

Teddy Sheringham won the inaugural Premier League Golden Boot in 1993. Playing for Tottenham Hotspur, the former England forward netted 22 goals in 41 games to bag the prestigious award.

Later in 1994, Newcastle United’s Andy Cole won the Premier League Golden Boot after he scored 34 goals in 40 games that season.

Alan Shearer then became the first player to win the award in three consecutive seasons. He claimed the Premier League Golden Boot in 1994-95, 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons.

In 1999, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Dwight Yorke were the first non-English and non-European winners, respectively, when they shared the award with Michael Owen.

Legendary Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has the most Premier League Golden Boot awards. He won the award on four occasions in 2001-02, 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06.

Thierry Henry also became the second player after Alan Shearer to win the award in three successive seasons.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland scripted history as he scored the most goals to win the Premier League Golden Boot.

In the 2022-23 season, Erling Haaland won the award after he scored 36 goals in just 35 matches. Haaland once again bagged the award in the 2023-24 season with 27 goals in 31 games.

Former Chelsea forward Nicolas Anelka netted the fewest goals to bag the Golden Boot outright with 19 goals in 2008-09.

However, the all-time record for lowest number of goals scored to be presented the award is 18 goals, which was achieved during the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons.

Chris Sutton, Dion Dublin and Michael Owen shared the award with 18 goals in 1998, while the same thing was repeated by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Dwight Yorke and Michael Owen in 1999.

England national football team captain Harry Kane has now scored 200 league goals in his Tottenham Hotspur career, a record for the most Premier League goals for a single club.

Kane made his Premier League debut at 19 years and 21 days during Tottenham’s 1-2 defeat to Newcastle United in 2012. The striker scored his first-ever English Premier League goal for Spurs in a 5-1 victory over Sunderland in 2014.

Since then, Harry Kane has averaged 20 goals per Premier League season right up to 2021-22.

Besides winning the Golden Boot in 2015-16 (25 goals) and 2016-17 (29 goals), Harry Kane’s best Premier League campaign came in 2017/2018, where he scored 30 goals.

Interestingly, Kane’s record-breaking 185th goal was also his 250th career goal for Tottenham Hotspur across all competitions.

Sergio Aguero, Manchester City’s all-time record goalscorer in history, previously held the record for most Premier League goals for a single club.

The Argentine forward, who retired in 2021, scored 184 goals during his time in the Premier League between 2011 and 2021.

Aguero is best remembered for his stoppage-time goal in the 3-2 win against Queens Park Rangers that won Manchester City their first Premier League title.

Third on the list is another Manchester legend in Wayne Rooney. The all-time record goalscorer for Manchester United, Rooney scored 183 goals during his trophy-laden spell with the Red Devils.

Among the top moments in Wayne Rooney’s Premier League legacy, the one that certainly stands out is his 78th-minute overhead kick against Manchester City in a derby.

Thierry Henry (175) and Alan Shearer (148) complete the top five list of players with the most Premier League goals for a single club.

Henry, one of the greatest overseas players ever to play in the English Premier League, scripted history of his own with his contribution as part of ‘The Invincibles?and as Arsenal’s record scorer in the English top-flight league.

Lastly, Alan Shearer is the fifth player on the list. The legendary England striker was a force to be reckoned with during his time at Newcastle United, after which he also played for Southampton and Blackburn Rovers.

A Manchester derby is a football match played between Manchester-based clubs Manchester United and Manchester City.

One of the oldest rivalries in world football, the fixture’s origins date back to 1881 when the Manchester clubs were named St. Mark's (West Gorton) ?who would later become Manchester City ?and Newton Heath ?rechristened as Manchester United.

Manchester United vs Manchester City: Head-to-head record in all competitions

Manchester United and Manchester City have faced off in 189 Manchester derbies, with MUFC in command of the head-to-head record. While United have registered 78 victories, the Cityzens, on the other hand, have managed 58 wins.

An astonishing 53 games have ended up with the Manchester rivals sharing the spoils.

Manchester United vs Manchester City: Head-to-head record in the Premier League

Manchester United and Manchester City have clashed on 51 occasions in the Premier League and the upcoming fixture will be the 52nd between the English giants in English top-flight football.

Since the formation of the Premier League in 1992 right up until February 2011, Manchester United lost only five of their Manchester derbies at the league level against Man City.

However, the tables turned since the 2011-12 season as Manchester City have won 13 of the 23 Manchester derbies played in the Premier League against Manchester United, with the Red Devils claiming seven wins and fighting to secure three draws.

Who has the most goals in the Manchester derby?

Wayne Rooney has scored the most goals in a Manchester derby, with 11 strikes in 31 meetings. In a career that spanned over 13 years, Rooney - MUFC’s all-time leading goalscorer - hit nine goals in the Premier League alone against the Cityzens including the classic overhead-kick that propelled the Red Devils to a 2-1 win in 2011.

As for Manchester City, Joe Hayes and Francis Lee share the title of record scorer in the Manchester derby. The forwards found the net 10 times against the red half of Manchester, and still maintain hold over the honour that could have been equalled by a certain Sergio Aguero.

The Argentina star, who was forced to retire from football last year due to heart problems, scored nine goals against MUFC in all competitions; eight of which were in the Premier League.

What is the biggest win in the Manchester derby?

Manchester City have registered the biggest win in a Manchester derby twice, a 6-1 win in the 1925-26 season which would be matched by Roberto Mancini's team in the 2011-12 campaign.

After Mario Balotelli’s twin strikes and Sergio Aguero’s 69th-minute goal made it 3-0 to City, Darren Fletcher tried to incite a comeback with an 81st-minute goal.

However, Man City were eager to go for more than three goals and they did so with Edin Dzeko (89', 90 +3') and David Silva (90 +1') completing a 6-1 rout of Man Utd at the Theatre of Dreams.

The result was United’s biggest home defeat in Premier League history and would later be matched by Tottenham Hotspur in October 2020.

The Premier League, over the years, has been enriched by some of the most lethal goalscorers to have played the game of football.

On their day, these goalscorers made a mockery of the opposition defence by netting three or more goals to take home the match ball, which is awarded to the hat-trick scorer of the match.

However, out of the 200-plus hat-tricks that have been scored in the Premier League since its inception in 1992, only 39 of them were ?/span>perfect hat-trick?

What is a perfect hat-trick?

A perfect hat-trick is a term used for three goals scored by a player in a single match, out of which one is a right-footed goal, one is a left-footed strike and the third is a header.

The order in which the three goals are scored is inconsequential and can be between goals scored by other players on the field.

Only three players have managed to achieve the feat more than once in Premier League history. Here, we shall have a look at the players who have scored the perfect hat-tricks in EPL.

Robbie Fowler - three perfect hat-tricks (1993, 1995 and 1999)

Robbie Fowler scored a total of nine hat-tricks in his illustrious 18-year career in the English top flight.

Out of these nine trebles, three of them were perfect hat-tricks, all of which came while playing for Liverpool.

While two out of the three perfect hat-tricks came against Southampton in 1993 and 1999, the other was against rivals Arsenal in 1995.

Yakubu Ayegbeni - two perfect hat-tricks (2007, 2011)

Yakubu Ayegbeni played for four clubs during his stint in the top tier of English football, namely Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers.

The Nigerian scored 95 goals in 252 appearances in the Premier League to become the fourth-highest African goalscorer in the tournament’s history.

Out of these 95 goals, six of them came in the form of perfect hat-tricks, scored for Everton against Fulham in 2007 and for Blackburn Rovers in their 4-2 win over Swansea City in December 2011.

Sergio Aguero - two perfect hat-tricks (2015, 2018)

Sergio Aguero, who has the most hat-tricks (12) in Premier League history, was one of the most feared strikers during his decade-long tenure at Manchester City.

Among the plethora of remarkable outings, Aguero is fondly remembered for the moment he scored the stoppage time winner against Queens Park Rangers on the final day of his first season with the club in 2011/12 as the Cityzens clinched their first-ever EPL title in the most thrilling fashion possible.

Nevertheless, Newcastle United were among his favourite opponents as he scored 15 goals in 14 appearances while playing against them, which includes two perfect hat-tricks in 2015 and 2018.

In the 2015 clash, Aguero’s onslaught saw him smash five goals in 23 minutes in City’s 6-1 win to become only the fifth player in EPL history to score as many goals in a single match and the fastest to do so.

FC Barcelona striker Sergio Kun Aguero on Wednesday announced his retirement from football at the age of 33 after being diagnosed with a heart problem.

The Argentine footballer complained of chest pain and breathing issues in Barcelona’s 1-1 draw against Alaves in La Liga on October 30.

Barcelona confirmed that Aguero was suffering from arrhythmia, which is associated with improper beating of the heart, whether irregular, too fast or too slow.

Since then, the forward had undergone regular cardiac exams to monitor his well-being before the doctors came to a conclusion that it is better he cuts his career short.

“This news conference is to communicate that I’ve decided to stop playing soccer. It’s a very hard moment but I’m at peace with the decision I made,?a tearful Aguero stated at the Camp Nou.

“It’s a decision that I made to preserve my health. It’s what the doctors said to me, that it would be better to stop playing. I made the decision around 10 days ago.?/span>

Aguero’s total goals scored in his career

Having made his professional debut on July 5, 2003, Sergio Kun Aguero netted 427 goals in 786 games in his illustrious career. The 33-year-old played for Independiente, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, FC Barcelona and the Argentina national team.

At 15 years and 35 days, Aguero became the youngest player to play in the Argentina Primera Division, breaking the record of Diego Maradona.

The Buenos Aires-born footballer later moved to Europe to play for Atlético Madrid in La Liga in 2006.

Having represented the La Liga outfit for five seasons and scoring 74 goals, Aguero signed for Premier League club Manchester City in 2011.

During his 10 years at the club, Aguero became the fourth-highest goalscorer in the Premier League, netting 184 goals in 275 matches. The Argentine striker has the best goal-scoring rate in the league, scoring a goal every 108 minutes.

Aguero helped Manchester City claim their first top-flight title since 1968 after he scored a last-gasp winner against Queens Park Rangers to clinch the 2011-12 Premier League title by denying arch-rivals Manchester United by virtue of goal difference.

Having won five Premier League titles, Aguero moved to Spain to play for FC Barcelona in 2021. He could only make four appearances for the Catalan giants.

The Barcelona forward’s last career goal was against Real Madrid in the El Clasico in their 1-2 defeat in La Liga at Camp Nou.

“I am very proud of my career. I always dreamed of a professional career since the first time I touched a ball at 5,?Aguero added at the press conference.

The Argentine ends his professional career with 17 trophies, 15 of which came during his stay at Manchester City.

Brazilian midfielder Willian terminated his Arsenal contract with mutual consent and returned home to join Corinthians as a free agent. The 33-year-old arrives at his boyhood club where he made his professional debut in 2006.

Switzerland playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri has completed a £9.5m move from Liverpool to Ligue 1 side Lyon, the clubs announced on Monday, August 23. The 29-year-old, who joined the Merseysiders from Stoke in a £13m deal in 2018, departs with a record of eight goals and nine assists in 63 appearances across all competitions.

Shaqiri won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA SuperCup and the FIFA Club World Cup in his three-year association with Liverpool, and leaves after being reduced to a peripheral figure in Jurgen Klopp's squad in the 2020-21 campaign. The Swiss captain has signed a three-year contract with Lyon.

With four loan spells away from the Santiago Bernabeu, the Norwegian fell down the pecking order and was finally notified that he won't be a part of Carlo Ancelotti's plans for the latest season.

Arsenal also confirmed the arrival of England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United. The 23-year-old, who made his Premier League debut with Bournemouth back in 2016-17, arrives after a solitary campaign with the Blades that saw them suffer relegation.

Ramsdale has signed a long-term contract reportedly for an initial fee of £24m, plus £6m in add-ons.

Led by their talisman Lionel Messi, the La Albiceleste bounced back strongly from their disappointing 1-1 draw against Chile to secure a 1-0 win against Uruguay on Friday, June 18.

With four points from two games, Argentina are currently the table-toppers in Group A, and they will look to book their place in the Copa America knockout stages with a win against Paraguay.

On the other hand, Paraguay started their Copa America 2021 campaign emphatically with a 3-1 humbling of Bolivia. Under the tutelage of Eduardo Berizzo, the La Albirroja will look to pull off an upset in their second Group A encounter. Watch Argentina vs Paraguay live in India!

Furthermore, Angel Di Maria will replace Nicolas Gonzalez after the 23-year-old forward received a knock in their last fixture against Uruguay.

It is rumoured that Lautaro Martinez’s poor form could see new Barcelona signing Sergio Aguero take up his place in the playing XI. With 98 caps to his name, Aguero played the final 10 minutes of the 1-1 draw against Chile and is gearing up for his first Argentina start since November 2019.

The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has made changes to the original schedule for Copa America 2021, with nine-time champions Brazil playing their Group B match against Venezuela in the opening fixture on June 13 (June 14 in India).

Postponed from last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition will have 10 teams participating after Australia and Qatar withdrew due to fixture congestion. The competition was originally set to be jointly hosted by Argentina and Colombia, but the CONMEBOL announced that Brazil will now host the entire competition.

Argentina was removed from hosting Copa America 2021 owing to the rising coronavirus cases in the country. Earlier, Colombia had to be axed as a host due to ongoing protests in the nation.

The fixtures were rejigged as well. Hosts Brazil will feature in the opener at the Mane Garrincha Stadium. The Copa America 2021 final will be held at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium.

The last edition of the tournament was also held in Brazil in 2019.

With the revised structure, the 10-team Copa America will have two groups of five teams each. The first group comprises Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay and Bolivia while the second group includes defending champions Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. Eight teams will advance to the quarter-finals, which means only one team from each group won't move on to the knockout stages.

Football superstars like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are expected to take part in the competition. The squads for the national teams are yet to be announced.

Premier League champions Manchester City have unveiled a series of tributes in honour of departing Argentine striker Sergio Aguero, ahead of his final league game for the Citizens.

The 32-year-old, who initially joined Manchester City in 2011, has won 15 trophies - six League Cups, five Premier League, three Community Shields, and one FA Cup, in his ten-year stay at the club and leaves as the all-time top scorer - 258 goals in 388 appearances - for the blue half of Manchester.

Manchester City had already planned to hand Aguero a statue outside the Etihad Stadium, joining former teammates David Silva and Vincent Kompany. Now, the club have decided to recognize the Argentine’s contributions with three more tributes.

Firstly, a mural highlighting Sergio Aguero’s historic 93:20 winner against Queens Park Rangers in the 2011-12 season is commissioned and will be placed in the heart of the Northern Quarter in the Manchester City centre.

The Cityzens will also present the legendary forward with a mosaic commemorating his first-ever goal for the club against Swansea City. The mosaic, created by local Manchester sculptor and City supporter Mark Kennedy, is the latest in a series of tributes to departing City legends, including Yaya Toure, Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany and David Silva.

As many as 10,000 supporters will be in attendance at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, as Sergio Aguero and Manchester City play the final league game of the 2020-21 season against Everton. The Argentine attacker will look to mark the occasion with the goal and cap off his time in England in style.

At the end of the game, it is expected that Aguero will lift the Premier League trophy in front of the attending crowd alongside Fernandinho.

Borussia Dortmund host Manchester City in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League 2020-21 quarter-finals at the Signal Iduna Park in the small hours of Thursday (as per Indian Standard Time).

The German club will look to overturn a 2-1 deficit after losing to the Premier League leaders in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium last week.

However, Edin Terzic's side has been very inconsistent in the recent past, winning only two of their last five games across all competitions.

Borussia Dortmund secured a 3-2 win against VfB Stuttgart during the weekend, which will give them some belief going into the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg.

Meanwhile, Manchester City suffered a shocking defeat against Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday. Pep Guardiola will hope that his men can quickly get over the loss and secure their semi-final place in Europe’s elite football competition.

In the Borussia Dortmund vs Manchester City head-to-head record in the UEFA Champions League, both the teams have won one game apiece while one match ended in a stalemate.

Borussia Dortmund team and injury news

Ahead of the second leg, Borussia Dortmund suffered a massive blow as their star winger Jadon Sancho was ruled out of the encounter against his former club Man City.

Furthermore, captain Marco Reus is also doubtful after the 31-year-old limped off injured in the second half against Stuttgart.

Dortmund will also miss the services of Axel Witsel, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Youssoufa Moukoko.

Manchester City team and injury news

Manchester City star striker Sergio Aguero and defender Aymeric Laporte are both doubtful for the second leg clash against Borussia Dortmund.

Apart from these injury concerns, Manchester City will have a full-strength team to pick from against the Bundesliga giants.
