The Duleep Trophy 2024 will start on September 5 and run till September 22.

Organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Duleep Trophy 2024 will be held in a revamped structure as the board decided to discontinue the zonal format.

India A, India B, India C and India D are the four teams that will compete in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.

As per the Duleep Trophy 2024 schedule, each team will play the other sides once in a round-robin format with no knockout games schedule. The team finishing at the top of standings after all the six matches will clinch the Duleep Trophy 2024 title.

The first round matches of the Duleep Trophy 2024 will be played in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Shreyas lyer, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are some of the international stars that will feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024.

However, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin have not been selected in any of the squads.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas lyer are the four captains for Duleep Trophy.

Named after Kumar Shri Duleepsinhji of Nawanagar (also known as Duleep), the first edition of Duleep Trophy was played during the 1961-62 season. West Zone won the inaugural edition of the tournament after defeating South Zone by 10 wickets in the final.

The zonal teams were replaced by five new teams - Elite A, Elite B, Elite C, Plate A and Plate B during the 2002-03 season. However, this format was used for only one season.

Later from the 2003-04 season till 2008, the Duleep Trophy featured five zonal teams and another guest team from a foreign nation.

This domestic cricket competition was not held during the 2015-16 season, but later made a comeback with a new format in 2016-17.

India Blue, India Green and India Red were the three teams that competed for the Duleep Trophy for next three years till the 2019-20 season.

In the 2022-23 season, the BCCI once again introduced the zonal format with the addition of a new team - North East Zone, apart from the original five zones.

South Zone are the defending champions of the Duleep Trophy, having defeated West Zone by 75 runs in the 2023 final.

Meanwhile, West Zone are the most successful team in Duleep Trophy history with 19 titles.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium is one of the world's oldest cricket grounds located in New Delhi, India.

Established in 1883, the stadium was earlier known as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium and is the second oldest international cricket stadium in India after the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Located near the Kotla Fort, the  Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium was renamed to Arun Jaitley Stadium in September 2019 in memory of former Finance Minister of India and former Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Arun Jaitley.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium is the home ground of the Delhi cricket team and Delhi franchise in the Indian T20 League.

The stadium hosted its first international match, a Test between India and West Indies, in November 1948. Since then, the venue has staged 35 Tests, 31 ODIs and seven T20Is.

Apart from international matches, it has also staged several Indian T20 League matches and other T20 matches in domestic as well as at club levels.

Let’s have a closer look at the Arun Jaitley Stadium T20 records and stats.

After Jharkhand scored 493 in their first innings, Delhi rode on Pant’s 106-ball 117 and captain Unmukt Chand’s 109 off 181 balls to post 334 in reply. Interestingly, Pant scored his first innings hundred off 82 balls, which is now the fifth-fastest century in Ranji Trophy. Later after following on, Pant played a knock for the ages. The southpaw slammed his second consecutive ton of the match and in the process smashed the fastest Ranji century off just 48 balls. While Pant was later dismissed for a 67-ball 135, his knock helped Delhi secure a draw.

Riyan Parag | 56 balls vs Chhattisgarh | 2023-24

Assam captain Riyan Parag joined the elite list after his blistering century against Chhattisgarh during a Group B clash in January 2024. After following on, Parag produced an exceptional knock as he scored the second-fastest century in Ranji Trophy history. Batting at number four, Parag hit a 56-ball ton against a formidable Chhattisgarh bowling attack to keep his side in the game. Having showcased his incredible batsmanship, Parag concluded his innings with an outstanding score of 155 runs off 87 balls, laced with 11 fours and 12 maximums. Despite his scintillating knock, Assam lost the match by 10 wickets.

Naman Ojha | 56 balls vs Karnataka | 2014-15

Former India cricketer Naman Ojha features third on the list. Representing Madhya Pradesh, Naman Ojha scored a 56-ball century against Karnataka in the second innings of a Ranji Trophy Group A fixture in January 2015. Having trailed Karnataka by 219 runs after the first innings, Madhya Pradesh rode on centuries from Ojha (115) and Aditya Shrivastava (108 not out) to produce a spirited comeback. In the process, Ojha slammed the then fastest Ranji ton in just 56 balls. His knock included eight fours and nine sixes. Ojha played an important role in helping Madhya Pradesh secure a draw in the game.

After a disappointing Asia Cup 2022 campaign, the Indian cricket team will look to bounce back when they square off against Australia in a three-match T20I series starting on Tuesday, September 20.

The first T20I of the series will be played at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali while the second match is scheduled at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on September 23. The final match of Australia’s tour of India 2022 will take place at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on September 25.

Led by talismanic captain Rohit Sharma, India will hope to make best use of the T20I series against the mighty Australians to prepare for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 scheduled to be held in Australia in October-November.

Ahead of the forthcoming Australia series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 16-member squad.

Fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have returned to the squad after recovering from a back injury and a side strain, respectively. Both the players underwent rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Swashbuckling batters Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik have retained their place in the T20I set-up ahead of Sanju Samson.

Axar Patel has also been included in the squad as a like-for-like replacement for star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who recently underwent knee injury and has been ruled out of upcoming India’s assignments.

Additionally, ahead of the first T20 in Mohali, pacer Mohammed Shami, who was a surprise inclusion in India’s T20I squad, has tested positive for Covid-19 and been ruled out of the three-match series. Fast bowler Umesh Yadav has been drafted into the squad and is likely to play his first T20I since 2019.

Defending T20 World Cup champions Australia will be led by Aaron Finch in their short tour of India.

The visitors will miss the services of Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis due to injuries. While Starc has been ruled out due to a knee injury, Marsh and Stoinis are suffering from ankle injury and side strain, respectively.

Nathan Ellis, Daniel Sams and Sean Abbott have been named replacements for the India series.

Singapore-born cricketer Tim David is expected to make his Australia debut in the upcoming T20I series in India. David received his maiden Australia call-up following his impressive showing in T20 Leagues across the globe. The 26-year-old has already played 11 T20Is for Singapore, amassing 429 runs at an average of 47.67. He is, however, eligible to play for Australia immediately under ICC rules.

Australia head into the India series after whitewashing arch-rivals New Zealand 3-0 in a three-match ODI series.

There is no denying that Rishabh Pant is a talented batter, and on his day he can be swashbuckling and win matches by himself. And yet, with just 741 runs scored at an average of 23.63 and a meagre strike rate of 123.91, he has failed to notch onto the international stage.

A promise which has so far kept him in the team is his handy wicketkeeping. With KL Rahul as a backup, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson in and out of the team; Pant’s specialist keeping skills have ensured he plays regularly for Team India.

Now with Dinesh Karthik making a strong comeback to the Indian cricket team in a defined finisher role, there’s extra pressure on Pant. There is only one position left in a full-strength India batting line-up for Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan to compete for. That is if we imagine the highly probable scenario of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being untouchable and with KL Rahul the first man to walk into an India T20 batting line-up. It is difficult to picture one of them forcing Karthik out of position and playing out of position under this team management, which values role clarity.

‘He hasn’t learned/strong>

It is undeniable that Pant has recently struggled because of the wide line, losing his wicket multiple times to the same tactic in the South Africa series. Pant has mishandled wide deliveries 10 times in 19 T20 innings this season. It was "not a good sign," said former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, who was commentating on the fourth T20I, because Pant kept falling into the same trap. "He hasn't learned," Gavaskar said on Star Sports. "He hasn't learned from his previous three dismissals. They throw wide, and he keeps going for it. He has got to stop looking to go aerial that far outside the off-stump. There is no way he's going to get enough on it./span>

Pant obviously did not perform well in the international series against South Africa, but the team's management will not act hastily. Additional advantage for Pant is that he bats left-handed, which greatly benefits him if India decides to field Rohit, Rahul, and Kohli as its top three.

However, there remains an option of dropping Pant if his struggles continue and let Suryakumar Yadav come in as a floater in the middle overs. Or if the left-handed batting approach is too necessary then Ishan Kishan can open the innings with KL Rahul as the floater. Both of these are viable options.

The decision is difficult and onerous for captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid, but if Kohli and Rohit are both certain starters, Pant and Suryakumar will probably be vying for the last position in the batting order. It will be cruel on one of them to sit out, but India will be delighted they have identified a specialised finisher in DK, and will not have to push one of their middle-overs enforcers into a death-overs position.

The India cricket team will take on South Africa in the fifth and final T20I at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, June 19. The match will start at 7:00 PM IST (Indian Standard Time).

After suffering back-to-back defeats in Delhi and Cuttack in the opening two T20Is, India bounced back strongly in the next two matches to beat the Proteas by 48 runs and 82 runs in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot, respectively, to level the five match series 2-2.

As far as team news are concerned, India are expected to retain their playing XI from the last match, while South Africa pacers Kagiso Rabada and Wayne Parnell are likely to back at the expense of Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi.

IND vs SA Dream11 prediction

With India roaring back from 0-2 down to level five-match series 2-2, the hosts will start as favourites heading into the series decider against South Africa in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Furthermore, India have a superior head-to-head record against South Africa in the T20I format, winning 11 of the 19 matches that they have played so far. The Proteas have secured eight victories.

IND vs SA Dream11 team tips for 5th T20I

Top Tip: Best batter

India’s Ishan Kishan will be the batter to watch out in the fifth and final T20I. The swashbuckling left-hander has been the highest run-getter in the series so far, amassing 191 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 146.92 and an average of 47.75. Having already accrued 294 fantasy points, picking in-form Ishan Kishan for the series decider is a no-brainer at 9 credits.

Top tip: Best bowler

In the bowling department, Harshal Patel has been the standout bowler in the ongoing T20I series. India’s right-arm pacer has picked seven wickets in four matches at an economy of 7.23. Harshal will once again play an important role in the final T20I and will be a great fantasy pick for this clash at just 8.5 credits.

Top tip: Best all-rounder and wicket-keeper

Among the quality all-rounders on display, one must pick Dwaine Pretorius of South Africa in the fantasy cricket team. The 33-year-old all-rounder is currently the leading wicket-taker for South Africa in the series, claiming five wickets in four matches. He has also contributed with the bat, scoring 53 runs at a strike rate of 132.50. Having accumulated 220 fantasy points, Dwaine Pretorius will be a worthy fantasy pick for the final T20I.

For the wicket-keeper spot, India captain Rishabh Pant pips Quinton de Kock of South Africa. While both players have struggled with the bat in the series, Pant has amassed 125 fantasy points as compared to de Kock’s 65. Pant is a proven match-winner and is expected to play a key role on Sunday.

IND vs SA probable playing XI

IND playing XI (probable): Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (captain/wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan

SA playing XI (probable): Quinton de Kock (wicket-keeper), Temba Bavuma (captain), Dwaine Pretorius, Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi

With Hardik Pandya named as the captain of the Indian cricket team for the Ireland tour, the board and fans are looking forward to the next era of captains past the big names of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have also been captains of the national side in recent times. Pant, who led India in the South Africa T20 series at home, also captained Delhi in the Indian T20 League in 2021 and 2022. KL Rahul has also been captaining the Punjab team and more recently, Team Lucknow.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul has been captaining in the Indian T20 League since the past three years, first with the Punjab franchise and more recently, with Lucknow. Overall, he has captained 42 matches and won 20 of them, with his most successful season coming in 2022 as Lucknow qualified for the playoffs. With a win record of exactly 50 percent (two non decided matches), KL is deemed as a rather conservative captain. This comes from his slow batting approach while chasing.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant has also been leading the Delhi franchise for the last two years. His record in the league has been better, albeit with fewer games captained. He has led in 30 matches, while winning 16, at a win percentage of 55. Under his tutelage in 2021, Delhi finished top of the league stage. The left handed wicketkeeper batsman has been termed as an unorthodox captain by the experts, and is still learning his craft.

Hardik Pandya

The swashbuckling all rounder was appointed as the captain of his newly formed home franchise in Gujarat. In a splendid season, he led them to the title of the Indian T20 league in spectacular fashion, winning 11 of 15 matches. His win percentage thus is a superb 73.33 percent. He has been described as a risk taker and captains the way he plays - fearlessly.

Shreyas Iyer

The most experienced IPL captain on the list, Shreyas Iyer captained the Delhi franchise and shifted to the Kolkata franchise last year after the mega auction. He is thought to be a patient and calm captain. He has captained 55 matches in the Indian T20 league in a span of 2018-2022, missing out in 2021 due to injury. Out of these 55 matches, he has won 27, at a win percentage of 50.9.

Four players, four leaders and four styles. It is an abundance of leadership riches that India currently has, and it is yet to be seen as to who is groomed into the full time captain of Team India.

Rishabh Pant, the stand-in India captain for the T20 Internationals against South Africa, came under the scanner after India lost the first two matches. In what were convincing wins for the Proteas, experts and fans alike have found shared blame on Pant’s captaincy in the series.

This follows from a rather underwhelming performance under his captaincy by Delhi Capitals in this year’s Indian T20 League. The question that begs to be asked is whether the criticism is warranted or not.

The Indian team’s performance is always a significant source of joy for fans across the nation, and losses seem to bring the heat to the squad and coaching staff alike. Individual brilliance has been displayed by a few Indian players, but they have yet to fire in harmony and as a team. Pant’s team seems to have off days in both batting and bowling departments, and as a captain, he needs them to fire on all cylinders.

Retrospect is easy, and while the 24-year-old has made some key mistakes in both the bowling and batting orders, respectively, it is a part and parcel of someone who’s learning his craft.

Captaining India is a huge responsibility and to be in the footsteps of greats like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is no easy task. Rather than dismissing Pant, the strata of ex-pros should focus on mentoring him and helping him improve.

“Somewhere down the line I think, the more he leads, the better he will become, former India batter Wasim Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo. “But currently, at this stage, I think that when the match becomes tight, he panics a little bit./span>

A different type of captain

While that is a natural response, the mark of Pant as a captain will be how he learns from his mistakes and corrects the course.

Aakash Chopra, meanwhile, points at a different style of captaincy that Pant showcases. “Rishabh Pant does try to think out of the box at times,Chopra told Cricket Addictor. “We’ve seen that he’s not given Kuldeep Yadav his four overs in the Indian T20 League, even when he had taken four wickets from his first three. This has not just happened once but on several occasions. He is a different type of a captain./span>

What Pant needs is time to learn from his mistakes and hone his craft; while showcasing his captaincy with a larger sample size than two international matches. It is too early to pass a verdict on him.

Sport works in short-timed retrospect, and further improvements in this five-match series could see the narrative change for the better for the young India wicketkeeper.

Both Delhi and Kolkata will look to turn their respective seasons around after making a disappointing start to their Indian T20 League campaign. The Rishabh Pant-led Delhi franchise head into the Kolkata game after suffering a 15-run defeat against Rajasthan at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday. Having registered three wins and four defeats this season, Delhi are currently placed seventh in the Indian T20 League standings with six points from seven matches.

Similarly, Kolkata have had a torrid run this season and are currently on a four-match winless run. Led by Shreyas Iyer, Kolkata succumbed to an eight-run defeat against newcomers Gujarat in their previous outing and will look to put an end to their winless streak against Delhi on Thursday.
