The Duleep Trophy 2024 will start on September 5 and run till September 22.

Organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Duleep Trophy 2024 will be held in a revamped structure as the board decided to discontinue the zonal format.

India A, India B, India C and India D are the four teams that will compete in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.

As per the Duleep Trophy 2024 schedule, each team will play the other sides once in a round-robin format with no knockout games schedule. The team finishing at the top of standings after all the six matches will clinch the Duleep Trophy 2024 title.

The first round matches of the Duleep Trophy 2024 will be played in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Shreyas lyer, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are some of the international stars that will feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024.

The zonal teams were replaced by five new teams - Elite A, Elite B, Elite C, Plate A and Plate B during the 2002-03 season. However, this format was used for only one season.

Later from the 2003-04 season till 2008, the Duleep Trophy featured five zonal teams and another guest team from a foreign nation.

This domestic cricket competition was not held during the 2015-16 season, but later made a comeback with a new format in 2016-17.

India Blue, India Green and India Red were the three teams that competed for the Duleep Trophy for next three years till the 2019-20 season.

In the 2022-23 season, the BCCI once again introduced the zonal format with the addition of a new team - North East Zone, apart from the original five zones.

South Zone are the defending champions of the Duleep Trophy, having defeated West Zone by 75 runs in the 2023 final.

Meanwhile, West Zone are the most successful team in Duleep Trophy history with 19 titles.

Ever since the inaugural edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007, which a young Indian side won against all odds, the premier cricket tournament has seen some extraordinary bowlers take centre stage.

Currently, Bangladesh player Shakib Al Hasan’s 50 wickets is the record for most wickets taken in the T20 World Cup history.

Meanwhile, spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record for most wickets for India in T20 World Cup with 32 wickets in 24 matches. Ashwin made his T20 World Cup debut in the 2012 edition.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s best bowling figures at the T20 World Cup is 4/11, which he recorded in a group phase match against Australia in the 2014 edition. India won that match by 73 runs.

Arshdeep Singh is next on the list of most wickets for India in T20 World Cups. The left-arm medium-pacer from India has picked up 27 wickets in only 14 games from 2022-2024. He holds an impressive average of 13.74 and an economy rate of 7.42.

India's star all-pacer Jasprit Bumrah also features in the list of leading wicket-takers for India in the T20 World Cup. The right-arm fast bowler has scalped 26 wickets in 18 games. His top spell of 3/7 came against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024. Bumrah bowled the penultimate without concerning any runs to register a historic victory in India's opening encounter of the Super Eights of the tournament.

With 24 wickets in 24 matches, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is next on the list. His best spell of 3/27 was registered in India's latest T20 World Cup 2024 match against Ireland in New York.

Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja completes the list of top five. The slow left-arm orthodox spinner, who first played in the 2009 edition, has taken 22 wickets in 30 matches. He bagged seven wickets in the previous edition, which is his individual best. Jadeja was all set to feature in the Twenty20 World Cup 2022 but an unfortunate injury ruled him out of the tournament in Australia.

Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan is the sixth Indian bowler on the list with 16 wickets in 15 games. He took 10 wickets at an economy of 6.77 in the inaugural edition and played a crucial part in India lifting the trophy. His best figures of 3/16 came in the final against arch-rivals Pakistan - a performance that won him the Man of the Match award too.

The left-arm formed a formidable pace bowling partnership with RP Singh and the duo accounted for a total of 22 wickets in that first edition of World T20.

Legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh completes the top seven list of the most wickets for India in the T20 World Cup. Nicknamed ‘The Turbanator? he has taken 16 wickets in 19 matches between 2007 and 2012. Interestingly, he also holds the record for bowling the most number of maiden overs in World T20 with four in as many editions.

Based on the performances after the first two weeks of Indian T20 League 2024, we look at the probable Indian cricket team for T20 World Cup 2024.

Indian cricket team for T20 World Cup 2024

Captain: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma will captain the Indian cricket team at the T20 World Cup 2024 as confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah in February. The former Mumbai captain has scored 118 runs in four matches in the ongoing Indian T20 League at a strike rate of 171.01. Overall, the stylish right-handed batter has amassed over 11,000 T20 runs, including seven centuries and 74 fifties to his name.

Opening batters: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli

There are several contenders for the two opening slots in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Apart from captain Rohit Sharma, the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli are the other contenders.

While there are ongoing debates about Virat Kohli’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, the former India captain has been in scintillating form in Indian T20 League 2024.

Kohli has been leading the Orange Cap list, having accumulated 316 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 105.33 including one hundred and two fifties.

New Gujarat skipper Shubman Gill has also been in good form in the ongoing T20 tournament. Opening the batting, Gill has scored 183 runs in five matches for Gujarat this season.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is the other contender for the opening slot. Being a southpaw, Jaiswal could provide a left-right opening combination. Since his T20I debut in 2023, Jaiswal has accumulated over 2,000 runs at a strike rate of 147.56.

Middle-order batters: Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya

Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are almost certainties in India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2024.

Swashbuckling Suryakumar Yadav is the world’s top-ranked T20I batter at the moment. The 33-year-old has been a match-winner in the T20I format, having amassed 2,141 runs in just 60 matches at an average of 45.55 and a strike rate of 171.55. He is expected to bat at No.3 in the upcoming T20 tournament.

On the other hand, Hardik Pandya can contribute with both bat and ball in the shortest format. The flamboyant cricketer has scored 1,348 runs and scalped 73 wickets in 92 matches so far.

Despite not being at his best in the ongoing Indian T20 League, Pandya has slammed 108 runs and bagged one wicket.

Rinku Singh could be picked in India's 15-member squad for T20 World Cup 2024. The hard-hitting lower-order batter has showcased his incredible capabilities, playing match-winning knocks for India as well for Kolkata in the Indian T20 League. He has aggregated almost 2,500 T20 runs at a strike rate of 148.86. Rinku could be an important member of the Indian squad at the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Shivam Dube is the other hard-hitting option for the T20 World Cup. Representing Chennai, Dube has already scored 176 runs in five matches, including hitting 10 fours and 13 sixes.

Wicket-keepers: Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson

Delhi captain Rishabh Pant has made an impressive comeback in Indian T20 League 2024. Having returned to competitive cricket after his life-threatening car accident in December 2022, Pant has amassed 153 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 154.54. He could be picked as first choice wicket-keeper in India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2024.

Apart from Rishabh, Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson has looked in great touch. The 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has scored 178 runs in four matches at an average of 59.33. He could be picked in the 15-member squad.

The likes of KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, Dhruv Jurel, Jitesh Sharma and Ishan Kishan are the other contenders for the two wicket-keeper slots.

Spinners: Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja is the other certainty in India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2024. Since his T20 debut in 2007, Jadeja has bagged over 200 wickets and scored more than 3,000 runs so far. The star all-rounder brings stability to any team.

Kuldeep Yadav could be retained in India’s T20 World Cup squad based on his recent performances. The left-arm wrist-spinner has been in great form for the Men in Blue across formats. He has picked 177 T20 wickets at an average of 21.58 and an economy of 7.41.

Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal has been one of the standout bowlers in Indian T20 League 2024. The star leg-spinner has scalped eight wickets in four matches at an average of 11.12 and an economy of 6.35. He could make a comeback in India’s T20 squad.

Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar are the other contenders.

Fast bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh

Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be one of the first picks in India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The right-arm pacer has claimed over 250 T20 wickets at an economy of just seven. He has been in sensational form for Mumbai in the ongoing Indian T20 League, having picked five wickets in four matches at an economy of 6.12.

Mohammed Siraj is expected to partner Bumrah for the marquee T20 World Cup. Siraj has a knack of picking crucial breakthroughs and could be play a pivotal role in the West Indies and the United States.

Arshdeep Singh could be another pick in India’s pace bowling attack. Being a left-arm pacer, Arshdeep brings variety to India’s bowling department. He has scalped over 150 T20 wickets at an average of 23.62 and an economy of 8.41.

The JSCA International Stadium Complex is a world-class cricket venue located in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Owned and operated by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, the JSCA International Stadium Complex was inaugurated in January 2013.

With a seating capacity of 39,000, it is the home ground of the Jharkhand cricket team.

The JSCA International Stadium Complex staged its first international match in January 2013, a One-Day International (ODI) between India and England. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India won the ODI by seven wickets.

Three years later, it hosted its first T20 international played between India and Sri Lanka.

In March 2017, the Ranchi cricket stadium staged its first Test match as the Indian cricket team hosted Australia. The match later ended in a draw.

Since then, it hosted one more Test played between India and South Africa. The Virat Kohli-led India thrashed the Proteas in that Test.

Let’s have a look at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi Test records and stats:
