The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune hosted its first international match on December 20, 2012, with the first T20I of the two-match series between India and England. The host won the contest by five wickets.

The MCA Stadium made its ODI bow the following year on October 13, 2013, with an India-Australia match. The series opener of the seven-match ODI duel, which produced some high-scoring games, was won by the visitors by a margin of 72 runs.

The venue made its entry into Test cricket in February 2017, again with an India-Australia duel with the visitors winning the match by 333 runs.

The venue has played host to a total of four T20Is, 12 ODIs, including five matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup, and two Test matches.

The World Test Championship is the premier competition in Test cricket akin to the World Cup in ODI and T20 cricket.

The idea of WTC was introduced in 2019 when the Test-playing nations played against each other for over two years. At the end of the two-year cycle, teams that occupy the top two spots in the points table will qualify to play the Final.

New Zealand won the inaugural edition of the WTC in June 2021 beating India by eight wickets at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. It was Australia who won the title in June 2023, once again beating India by 209 runs, at the Oval in London.

India currently leads the points table in the current edition of the WTC and are well-placed to qualify for the Final to be played in June 2025 in England.

Batters win you sessions, but bowlers win you matches in Test cricket. For any team to win a Test match, it is imperative that they pick up 20 wickets of the opponents within the stipulated five days.

It is sweat and toil for the bowlers as they do the dirty job to help their team get the better of their opposition. Bowling is always a thankless job, especially in the longer format of the game.

Here, we look at the players with the most wickets in WTC history after it was introduced in 2019.

Ever since the inaugural edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007, which a young Indian side won against all odds, the premier cricket tournament has seen some extraordinary bowlers take centre stage.

Currently, Bangladesh player Shakib Al Hasan’s 50 wickets is the record for most wickets taken in the T20 World Cup history.

Meanwhile, spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record for most wickets for India in T20 World Cup with 32 wickets in 24 matches. Ashwin made his T20 World Cup debut in the 2012 edition.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s best bowling figures at the T20 World Cup is 4/11, which he recorded in a group phase match against Australia in the 2014 edition. India won that match by 73 runs.

Arshdeep Singh is next on the list of most wickets for India in T20 World Cups. The left-arm medium-pacer from India has picked up 27 wickets in only 14 games from 2022-2024. He holds an impressive average of 13.74 and an economy rate of 7.42.

India's star all-pacer Jasprit Bumrah also features in the list of leading wicket-takers for India in the T20 World Cup. The right-arm fast bowler has scalped 26 wickets in 18 games. His top spell of 3/7 came against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024. Bumrah bowled the penultimate without concerning any runs to register a historic victory in India's opening encounter of the Super Eights of the tournament.

With 24 wickets in 24 matches, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is next on the list. His best spell of 3/27 was registered in India's latest T20 World Cup 2024 match against Ireland in New York.

Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja completes the list of top five. The slow left-arm orthodox spinner, who first played in the 2009 edition, has taken 22 wickets in 30 matches. He bagged seven wickets in the previous edition, which is his individual best. Jadeja was all set to feature in the Twenty20 World Cup 2022 but an unfortunate injury ruled him out of the tournament in Australia.

Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan is the sixth Indian bowler on the list with 16 wickets in 15 games. He took 10 wickets at an economy of 6.77 in the inaugural edition and played a crucial part in India lifting the trophy. His best figures of 3/16 came in the final against arch-rivals Pakistan - a performance that won him the Man of the Match award too.

The left-arm formed a formidable pace bowling partnership with RP Singh and the duo accounted for a total of 22 wickets in that first edition of World T20.

Legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh completes the top seven list of the most wickets for India in the T20 World Cup. Nicknamed ‘The Turbanator he has taken 16 wickets in 19 matches between 2007 and 2012. Interestingly, he also holds the record for bowling the most number of maiden overs in World T20 with four in as many editions.

The Indian cricket team scripted history as they won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007.

Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India beat arch-rivals Pakistan by five runs in a nail-biting final to clinch their maiden T20 World Cup title in Johannesburg.

Later in the next three editions of the T20 World Cup in 2009, 2010 and 2012, the Men in Blue experienced disappointing campaigns as they were knocked out in either the Super 8s, Super 10s or Super 12s.

Having hosted the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2016, favourites India stormed into the semi-finals before they once again lost to eventual winners West Indies in the last four.

The seventh edition of the T20 World Cup was held after five years in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman in 2021.

Led by Virat Kohli, India had a dismal campaign as they were knocked out in the Super 12 Stage.

One year later, the marquee ICC tournament was held once again in Australia. Favourites India once again faltered at the semi-final stage as they lost to eventual champions England.

India lifted their second T20 World Cup in a thrilling final against South Africa in 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Let's take a look at India in T20 World Cup knockouts record and stats.

The India vs Australia cricket rivalry is one of the most intense rivalries in the sport.

The two teams first met in 1947 when India toured Australia for a five-match Test series. The hosts won the series 4-0. Since then, both countries have engaged in several Test, ODI and T20I matches.

India and Australia have locked horns on 290 occasions at the international level to date with Australia having a better head-to-head record over India in Tests and ODIs.

However, India holds a better head-to-head record against Australia in T20 international cricket history.

With that being said, let’s have a look at India vs Australia head-to-head in cricket.

Mankading in cricket has always been a polarizing topic with debates and discussions always surrounding the law.

A high-profile Mankading incident that took place involving Ravichandran Ashwin and Jos Buttler in the 2019 edition of the Indian T20 League sparked off the spirit of cricket dispute with people divided over the legitimacy and nature of the dismissal.

With all the hype surrounding it, we delved into the Mankading rule, its origin and the legality of the mode of dismissal.

What is Mankading in cricket?

Mankad in cricket is a run-out attempt made by the bowler before his delivery stride to dismiss the batter at the non-striker’s end. After the latest update in the law, the dismissal is termed as a run-out at the non-striker's end.

The origin of Mankading dates back to 1947 when the Indian team toured Australia. Vinoo Mankad, Indian opener and slow left-arm orthodox bowler, is credited to have pulled off this mode of dismissal for the very first time in cricket.

During one of his overs after observing that the non-striker was frequently out of his crease at the point of delivery, Mankad stopped in his delivery stride and took the bails off from the non-striker’s end, dismissing Bill Brown during the second Test. And thus, began the ‘Mankadingera.

Mankad came in for heavy backlash, especially from the Australian media, for showing ‘unsportsmanlikeconduct, but former Australian captain Don Bradman didn’t see what all the fuss was about.

“For the life of me I cannot understand why. The laws of cricket make it quite clear that the non-striker must keep within his ground until the ball has been delivered,Don Bradman wrote in his autobiography.

Is Mankading legal in cricket?

The attempt of dismissing a batter by Mankading is within the laws of cricket. Previously, Mankad was considered an unfair practice under Law 41 of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) - the guardians of the cricket laws.

As per the law, ‘If the non-striker is out of his/her ground from the moment the ball comes into play to the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the bowler is permitted to attempt to run him/her out. Whether the attempt is successful or not, the ball shall not count as one in the over.’/span>

However, as per the latest amendments in the cricket laws made by the MCC, Mankading or dismissing a batter who is out of his crease at the non-striker’s end before the delivery of the ball will now be considered a run-out.

Deepti Sharma's Mankad run-out incident during a women's ODI at Lord's in September 2022 raised multiple eyebrows. Deepti dismissed England's Charlie Dean to win a close encounter. While multiple experts expressed their concern about it, the umpires deemed it a fair dismissal, considering the latest amendments to the Mankad law.

While the Mankad mode of dismissal continues to be polarising, raising questions surrounding the spirit of the game, this mode of dismissal isn't going anywhere and only seems to be getting more popular these days following the advent and evolution of T20 cricket.
