Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene’s 166-run partnership with Kumar Sangakkara against West Indies in the 2010 edition stands third on the list of highest partnership in T20 World Cup.

West Indies got an early breakthrough after Kemar Roach dismissed Sanath Jayasuriya in the third over. However, the Lankans Mahela Jayawardene’s unbeaten 56-ball 98, which comprised nine boundaries and four maximums and Kumar Sangakkara’s brisk 49-ball 68 powered their team to a total of 195/3, getting a 166-run partnership in the process.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has scored the most runs in ODI cricket. The former Indian cricket team captain tallied an impressive 18,426 runs in 463 matches during his career that spanned between 1989-2012.

Tendulkar, who also holds the record for scoring the most hundreds in the sport (100) across formats, made his ODI debut against Pakistan in December 1989. In his first two ODIs, the ‘Little Masterrecorded consecutive ducks before opening his account against New Zealand in March 1990, scoring a 39-ball 36.

It took Tendulkar almost a year to score his first half-century in the One-Day International (ODI) format. During the second ODI of Sri Lanka's tour of India in December 1990, the top-order batter scored 53 runs off 41 balls as India successfully chased 230 with six wickets to spare.

Since hitting that half-century against Sri Lanka, Tendulkar became one of the greatest batsmen to have ever graced the sport. From his debut (1989) to retirement in 2012, he registered 49 tons followed by a whopping 96 fifties with his highest score being an unbeaten 200 against South Africa in 2010.

Tendulkar ended his ODI career with an average and strike rate of 44.83 and 86.23 respectively. During this time, he hit 2016 fours - the most by any player in the format - and 195 sixes.

Meanwhile, former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara sits second on the list of the most runs in ODIs. The wicket-keeper batsman scored 14,234 runs in the format between 2000-2015. During this time, he hit 25 tons and 93 half-centuries. Ricky Ponting follows Sangakkara with 13,704 runs as Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430) and Virat Kohli (12,809) complete the top five list.

Virat Kohli has scored the most runs in ODI cricket among active players. The 34-year-old has amassed 13,024 runs in 278 matches at an average of 57.63. Kohli has the best average among players to have scored more than 2,000 career runs in the 50-over format.

Sachin Tendulkar hit 100 centuries in his celebrated career, a record for most hundreds in international cricket.

The legendary Indian cricket batter, whose career spanned from 1989 to 2013, hit his 100th international cricket century in a 2012 Asia Cup match against Bangladesh. The landmark century, however, ended in a losing cause as the Bangla Tigers secured a five-wicket win at Mirpur.

Sachin’s first century in international cricket came back in 1990 at Old Trafford. His unbeaten 119 off 189 balls helped India draw the Test against England. The ‘Little Masternotched his maiden ODI hundred (110) against Australia in the 1994 Singer World Series.

Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 centuries in international cricket consist of 51 Test centuries and 49 ODI hundreds. He doesn’t have a hundred in T20 international cricket as he scored just 10 runs in his first and only T20I against South Africa back in 2006.

The Master Blaster is miles ahead of Australia’s Ricky Ponting when it comes to most hundreds in international cricket.

Among the most successful cricket captains and the most successful skippers in Cricket World Cup history, Ponting has hit 71 international hundreds in his career.

Ricky Ponting’s first international cricket century came in the 50-overs format. His 138-ball 123 helped Australia post 213/5 against Sri Lanka in a 1996 Tri-series. The Aussies, however, lost the game by three wickets.

Ponting hit his maiden Test century against England in the 1997 Leeds Test, with his 202-ball 127 helping Australia cross 300 after they were reduced to 50/4 early on in the tie. His efforts inspired the visitors to post a match-winning total of 501/9d.

Like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting retired from international cricket without a hundred in T20 international cricket.

Former India captain Virat Kohli is currently the active player with the most hundreds in international cricket. The 33-year-old has amassed 72 international centuries, 27 of those in Tests, 44 centuries in One Day internationals and one ton in T20I cricket.

His maiden hundred in international cricket came against Sri Lanka in 2009. With India given a target of 316 to chase in 50 overs, the swashbuckling batter hit a 114-ball 107 alongside Gautam Gambhir (150 not out) to propel the Men in Blue to a seven-wicket triumph at Kolkata.

Kohli had to wait for seven matches to notch his first Test hundred. The knock - 116 off 213 balls - came in a 298-run defeat against Australia at Adelaide.

Virat Kohli’s first T20I hundred came against Afghanistan during an Asia Cup 2022 encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. He smashed an unbeaten 122 off 61 balls to help India secure a 101-run victory in a Super 4 stage clash.

Kumar Sangakkara and Jacques Kallis complete the top five list for most hundreds in international cricket.

Sangakkara, the all-time leading run-getter for Sri Lanka across formats in a career spanning 15 years from 2000 to 2015. He scored 63 international cricket hundreds over the course of his career.

The left-hander drew curtains on his cricket career in 2015 with 38 Test hundreds and 25 ODI centuries to his name.

Among the greatest all-rounders in cricket history, Kallis slammed his first hundred in cricket history against Australia (101 in Tests) in 1997. His maiden ODI ton came in 1997/98 match against New Zealand (111). The Proteas legend ended his career with 62 international centuries, with 45 in Tests and 17 in ODIs.

Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 34,357 runs across formats is the record for most runs in international cricket.

The former Indian cricket team batter, who made his international debut against Australia in 1989, played a total of 664 international matches across all three formats, hitting 100 tons and 164 half-centuries.

During his career that spanned from 1989 to 2013, Tendulkar played 200 Test matches - the most by any player - 463 ODIs and appeared in a solitary T20I.

The Master Blaster has several other records to his name. To begin with, his return of 15,921 runs in the longest format is the most by any player in Test cricket history.

Furthermore, he also holds the record for most runs in ODI cricket in a calendar year (1894). He did so in 1998 by hitting nine tons and seven half-centuries. Interestingly, no bowler managed to dismiss him for a duck that year.

Tendulkar’s record of 34,357 runs is significantly more than second-placed Kumar Sangakkara, who scored 28,016 international runs during his 15-year career. The Sri Lanka legend, who hit a record seven consecutive fifties in Test cricket, played 594 matches between 2000 and 2015, hitting 63 centuries and 153 half-centuries.

Sangakkara is followed by Australia’s World Cup-winning captain, Ricky Ponting. Between 1995-2012, Ponting appeared in 560 international matches across formats, scoring 27,483 runs at an average of 45.95. During this time, he managed 71 tons coupled with 146 fifties.

While the top five list for most runs in international cricket is completed by Mahela Jayawardene (25,957) and Jacques Kallis (25,534), Virat Kohli is the only active player to score more than 20,000 runs in international cricket. The former Indian cricket team captain has so far accumulated 23,569 runs in 456 matches. He sits seventh on the list for most runs in international cricket.

Kohli is followed by Joe Root (16602), Rohit Sharma (15643), David Warner (15593) and Tamim Iqbal (14243) for most runs in international cricket by active players.
