Jasprit Bumrah has been the wrecker-in-chief for the Indian cricket team in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States.

In their opening Group A game against Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Harry Tector to bag his first wicket in the ongoing ICC tournament.

Bumrah later removed Joshua Little to help India bowl out Ireland for 96 in 16 overs. The Indian bowling spearhead finished with impressive figures of 3-1-6-2.

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India successfully chased down the target in 12.2 overs to register a comprehensive eight-wicket win at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Bumrah was later adjudged the Player of the Match for his brilliant spell.

The 30-year-old continued his sensational form against arch-rivals Pakistan in their second Group A fixture.

After India were bowled out for 119 in 19 overs against Pakistan, the Men in Blue needed some inspiration from their bowlers. Bumrah gave India an early breakthrough as he bagged the massive wicket of Pakistan captain Babar Azam.

The right-arm pacer later cleaned up wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan in the 15th over to change the game in India’s favour.

He then claimed Iftikhar Ahmed’s wicket to finish with figures of 4-0-14-3. Bumrah’s magnificent spell guided India to a thrilling six-run victory in New York.

The Gujarat-born cricketer bagged back-to-back Player of the Match awards in the T20 World Cup 2024.

In their third Group A match against co-hosts United States, Bumrah produced another economical spell in New York. While India’s star pacer didn’t pick any wicket, he conceded just 25 runs in his quota of four overs.

Rohit Sharma’s men secured a seven-wicket win over the United States to book their place in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage. India’s final Group A match against Canada was later abandoned due to wet outfield.

In the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage, Bumrah continued to torment the opposition batters.

Bumrah set a new Indian record against Afghanistan in their opening Super 8 clash in the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The speedster bowled the most economical spell by an Indian in the T20 World Cup history. Bumrah troubled the Afghanistan batters as he scalped three wickets while conceding just seven runs in his four overs.

Defending 181, Bumrah removed Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Hazratullah Zazai and Najibullah Zadran to skittle out Afghanistan for 134. India won the game by 47 runs.

Later in their second Super 8 game against Bangladesh, Bumrah produced another economical spell. After India scored 196/5 in their 20 overs, the Men in Blue rode on an all-round bowling performance to restrict Bangladesh to 146 in their allotted overs.

Bumrah dismissed Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to finish with figures of 4-0-13-1. Know Jasprit Bumrah T20 World Cup 2024 stats.

Captain: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma will captain the Indian cricket team at the T20 World Cup 2024 as confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah in February. The former Mumbai captain has scored 118 runs in four matches in the ongoing Indian T20 League at a strike rate of 171.01. Overall, the stylish right-handed batter has amassed over 11,000 T20 runs, including seven centuries and 74 fifties to his name.

Opening batters: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli

There are several contenders for the two opening slots in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Apart from captain Rohit Sharma, the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli are the other contenders.

While there are ongoing debates about Virat Kohli’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, the former India captain has been in scintillating form in Indian T20 League 2024.

Kohli has been leading the Orange Cap list, having accumulated 316 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 105.33 including one hundred and two fifties.

New Gujarat skipper Shubman Gill has also been in good form in the ongoing T20 tournament. Opening the batting, Gill has scored 183 runs in five matches for Gujarat this season.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is the other contender for the opening slot. Being a southpaw, Jaiswal could provide a left-right opening combination. Since his T20I debut in 2023, Jaiswal has accumulated over 2,000 runs at a strike rate of 147.56.

Middle-order batters: Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya

Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are almost certainties in India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2024.

Swashbuckling Suryakumar Yadav is the world’s top-ranked T20I batter at the moment. The 33-year-old has been a match-winner in the T20I format, having amassed 2,141 runs in just 60 matches at an average of 45.55 and a strike rate of 171.55. Despite not being at his best in the ongoing Indian T20 League, Pandya has slammed 108 runs and bagged one wicket.

The hard-hitting lower-order batter has showcased his incredible capabilities, playing match-winning knocks for India as well for Kolkata in the Indian T20 League. He has aggregated almost 2,500 T20 runs at a strike rate of 148.86. Rinku could be an important member of the Indian squad at the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Wicket-keepers: Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson

Delhi captain Rishabh Pant has made an impressive comeback in Indian T20 League 2024. Having returned to competitive cricket after his life-threatening car accident in December 2022, Pant has amassed 153 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 154.54. Apart from Rishabh, Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson has looked in great touch. The 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has scored 178 runs in four matches at an average of 59.33. He could be picked in the 15-member squad.

The likes of KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, Dhruv Jurel, Jitesh Sharma and Ishan Kishan are the other contenders for the two wicket-keeper slots.

Spinners: Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja is the other certainty in India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2024. Since his T20 debut in 2007, Jadeja has bagged over 200 wickets and scored more than 3,000 runs so far. The star all-rounder brings stability to any team.

Kuldeep Yadav could be retained in India’s T20 World Cup squad based on his recent performances. The left-arm wrist-spinner has been in great form for the Men in Blue across formats. He has picked 177 T20 wickets at an average of 21.58 and an economy of 7.41.

Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal has been one of the standout bowlers in Indian T20 League 2024. The star leg-spinner has scalped eight wickets in four matches at an average of 11.12 and an economy of 6.35. He could make a comeback in India’s T20 squad.

Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar are the other contenders.

Fast bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh

Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be one of the first picks in India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The right-arm pacer has claimed over 250 T20 wickets at an economy of just seven. He has been in sensational form for Mumbai in the ongoing Indian T20 League, having picked five wickets in four matches at an economy of 6.12.

Mohammed Siraj is expected to partner Bumrah for the marquee T20 World Cup. Siraj has a knack of picking crucial breakthroughs and could be play a pivotal role in the West Indies and the United States.

Malik has also bowled the fifth-fastest ball (154kph) in the Indian T20 League, overtaking New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson who clocked 153.9kph. The list is spearheaded by former Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait who had recorded a 157.71kph delivery in 2011.

Delhi pacer Mayank Yadav features second on the list of fastest Indian bowlers. Representing Team Lucknow, Yadav made his Indian T20 League debut against Team Lucknow in 2024. He recorded a 155.8kph delivery to Punjab captain Shikhar Dhawan. Mayank later produced the fastest ball of the Indian T20 League 2024 as he clocked 156.7kph against Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan is third on the list of fastest Indian bowlers. The left-arm pacer recorded a 153.7 delivery against Pakistan during the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007.

Mohammed Shami has bowled the third-fastest delivery among India's fast bowlers in world cricket. The right-arm fast bowler delivered a 153.3kph during the third Test against Australia in Melbourne in 2014. Shami was the standout bowler in the series as he picked 15 wickets in three Tests at an average of 35.80.

Speedster Jasprit Bumrah is fourth on the list of fastest Indian bowlers. Bumrah clocked 153.26kph during the first Test against Australia in Adelaide in 2018. Bumrah was the wrecker-in-chief for the Indian cricket team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he bagged 21 wickets in four matches at an impressive average of 17.

Navdeep Saini completes the top five list of fastest Indian bowlers in world cricket. Saini recorded a 152.85kph delivery during the 2019 edition of the Indian T20 League.

Interestingly, unofficial reports claim Javagal Srinath breached the 157kph mark during India’s tour of South Africa in 1996. However, the delivery hasn’t made it to the official list as the speed gun levels weren't as accurate.

The likes of Ishant Sharma, Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav have also breached 152kph in international cricket.

During the 2003 ODI Cricket World Cup in Cape Town, Shoaib Akhtar produced the fastest ball in cricket history as clocked 161.3 kph against England in his second over of the game.

Bowling to England’s opening batter Nick Knight, the Pakistani speedster recorded speeds of 153.3 km/h, 158.4km/h, 158.5km/h, 157.4km/h, 159.5km/h and 161.3km/h to bowl a maiden over.

Tail produced a 161.1 km/h (100.1 mph) delivery while bowling to England opening batter Craig Kieswetter in his first over.

The Australian pacer later scalped four wicket wickets to guide the visitors to a 42-run victory.

Apart from Tait, the likes of Brett Lee, Jeffrey Thomson and Mitchell Starc feature on the top five list for the fastest ball in cricket history.

Almost three decades later in 2005, former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee etched his name in the elite list.

Lee clocked 161.1 kph delivery against arch-rivals New Zealand in 2005 to break Jeffrey Thomson’s record.

Among Indian bowlers, Umran Malik holds the record for the fastest ball in cricket history.

While representing the Hyderabad franchise in the Indian T20 League, Umran Malik produced a 157.0 kph thunderbolt against Delhi to become the fastest Indian bowler.

The Greenfield International Stadium is a multi-purpose venue mainly used for cricket and association football located at Kariavattom in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala.

Formerly known as the Trivandrum International Stadium, the Greenfield Cricket Stadium is constructed on 36 acres of land leased by the Kerala University for an amount of â‚?4 lakh (US$146,527.23) annually for a time period of 15 years.

With a seating capacity of 55,000 spectators, the Greenfield International Stadium became India’s 50th international cricket venue when it staged its first international match - a T20 international between India and New Zealand. Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, India won the match by six runs.

In 2018, Greenfield International Stadium hosted its first ODI between India and West Indies. The hosts thrashed the Caribbean team by nine wickets in that fixture.

The last time India played a T20I at Thiruvananthapuram in 2022, visitors South Africa were beaten by eight wickets by the Men in Blue.

Interestingly, the venue has been developed in line with FIFA guidelines and International Cricket Council standards.

The world-class venue has been divided into zones - north zones to be used for cricket, the east zone has been dedicated to football while the south zone features shopping malls and food courts. On the other hand, the West Zone comprises modern facilities including an Olympic size swimming pool and courts for volleyball, squash, table tennis and basketball.

Let’s have a look at the T20I records at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.

Greenfield International Stadium T20I records and stats
