The SuperSport Park, located in Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa, is one of the most renowned cricket grounds in the world. 

Originally named Centurion Park, the cricket venue is popularly known as SuperSport Park after television company SuperSport bought shares in the stadium. 

Known for its state-of-the-art facilities, the Centurion cricket ground features Beach Cabana type hospitality chalets on the grass banks. It has a beautiful outfield with modern drainage facilities.

With a seating capacity of 22,000, the SuperSport Park is the home ground of the South African cricket team, Titans cricket team and SA20’s Pretoria Capitals.

It staged its first international match, a one-day International (ODI) between hosts South Africa and India in December 1992. India won the match by four wickets.

The SuperSport Park later hosted its first Test match played between South Africa and England in November 1995. The match ended in a draw.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 396 in their first innings after electing to bat first. The Proteas bundled out the visitors for 180 in their second innings to win the Centurion Test by an innings and 45 runs.

Lowest total

The England cricket team recorded the lowest total at the SuperSport Park in Tests. Chasing 382 in the fourth innings, England were bowled out for 101 in 34.4 overs against South Africa in the final Test of a four-match series in January 2016. James Taylor top-scored for England with 24. For South Africa, pacer Kagiso Rabada was the wrecker-in-chief with six wickets. Earlier, AB de Villiers�South Africa posted 475 in their first innings after opting to bat first while England managed 342. The hosts declared their second innings at 248/5. Despite South Africa’s 280-run victory in the match, England clinched the series 2-1.

Most runs

Former South Africa batter Hashim Amla has scored the most runs at this ground in cricket’s longest format. Between 2007 and 2018, the right-handed batter accumulated 1,356 runs in 13 matches at an impressive average of 75.33. Amla slammed five centuries and eight fifties at the SuperSport Park in Test cricket. His highest Test score of 208 at the Centurion cricket ground came against the West Indies in 2014. Most wickets

South Africa cricketer Dale Steyn has picked up the most wickets at the SuperSport Park in Test cricket. The former right-arm fast bowler bagged 59 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 17.94 and a strike rate of 31.62. Steyn registered five four-wicket hauls and four fifers at this venue in Tests between 2006 and 2018. Steyn’s former teammate Makhaya Ntini is second on the list with 54 wickets in 10 Tests.

Highest individual score

Hashim Amla also registered the highest individual score at the SuperSport Park in Tests. Batting at number four, captain Hashim Amla scored 208 off 371 balls in the first innings of the opening Test of West Indies�tour of South Africa in 2014. His magnificent double hundred was laced with 22 fours and helped South Africa post 552/5. West Indies could only manage 201 and 131 in their two innings and lost the Centurion Test by an innings and 220 runs. South Africa won the three-match Test series 2-0.

Best bowling figures in an innings

South Africa’s Kyle Abbott recorded the best bowling figures in an innings of a Test match at this venue in 2013. The right-arm pacer registered figures of 7/29 to bowl out Pakistan for 156 in the first innings. Abbott dismissed Mohammad Hafeez, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Saeed Ajmal, Ehsan Adil and Mohammad Irfan to bundle out the visitors for a paltry total. South Africa won the Test by an innings and 18 runs.

Best bowling figures in a match

South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada holds the record for the best bowling figures in a Test match at the SuperSport Park. The right-arm fast bowler took 13 wickets during the fourth Test of England’s tour of South Africa in 2016. While Rabada scalped seven wickets for 112 runs in the first innings, he claimed another six wickets for just 32 runs in the second innings. Rabada’s magnificent bowling performance powered South Africa to a 280-run victory.

Highest partnership

South Africa’s Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers recorded the highest partnership at the SuperSport Park in Test cricket. Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers forged a massive 308-run stand for the fourth wicket in the first innings of the first Test against the West Indies in 2014. Amla scored 208 while de Villiers was dismissed for 152.

The New Zealand vs England Test 2024 cricket series will start in Christchurch on Thursday, November 28.

As per the New Zealand vs England Test 2024 schedule, the first game of the three-match series will be played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

The second Test is scheduled to be held at the Basin Reserve in Wellington starting on December 6 while the third and final Test will take place at the Seddon Park in Hamilton beginning on December 14.

The upcoming three-match series is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.

Currently ranked fifth in the ICC men’s Test team rankings, New Zealand are placed fourth in the WTC 2023-25 standings with a point percentage of 54.55.

Led by Tom Latham, New Zealand will head into the Test series brimming with confidence after securing a historic 3-0 whitewash over Rohit Sharma’s men in India. 

Meanwhile, the hosts will need another clean sweep against England if they are to finish in the top two of the WTC standings and qualify for next year’s WTC final at Lord’s.

The New Zealand cricket team has received a massive boost with the return of their talismanic batter Kane Williamson who has recovered from his groin injury after he missed the Kiwis�series win over India last month.

Bowling all-rounder Nathan Smith has earned his maiden Test call-up after his impressive performances at domestic level in New Zealand.

Spinner Mitchell Santner will miss the opening Test as he continues to recover from a side strain that he suffered in the third Test against India. He has been included in the squad for the second and third Tests.

However, the hosts will miss the services of their pacer Ben Sears and all-rounder Kyle Jamieson as they continue their rehabilitation.

Star pacer Tim Southee will retire from Test cricket at his home ground - Seddon Park in Hamilton.

On the other hand, the England cricket team will also play their final three Tests against New Zealand in the ongoing WTC cycle.

Having registered nine wins, nine losses and one draw, England are currently placed sixth in the WTC 2023-25 standings with a points percentage of 40.79.

Ranked fourth in the Test rankings, England have no chance of finishing in the top two of the WTC standings, but they could end New Zealand’s chances of qualifying for the WTC 2025 final.

Ahead of the three-match Test series, England have suffered a massive blow as wicketkeeper-batter Jordan Cox has been ruled out from the series after sustaining a fractured right thumb during a net session in Queenstown.

Cox was in line to make his Test debut in place of Jamie Smith who is currently on paternity leave. Ollie Pope is now expected to take the gloves for the opening Test in Christchurch. 

All-rounder Jacob Bethell has earned his maiden call-up in red-ball cricket. The 21-year-old earlier made his white-ball debut against Australia in both ODIs and T20Is in September.

England will host Ireland in a Group B2 match of the UEFA Nations League 2024-25 at the Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, November 17.

The West Indies vs England T20 2024 series will kickstart on Sunday, November 10.

The first T20I in the five-match series will be played at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados at 01:30 AM IST on Sunday. Live streaming of the West Indies vs England T20 2024 will be available in India.

The second game will start on November 11, the immediate next day, at the same venue and at the same time. The action will shift to the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia for the remaining three T20Is which will be played on November 15, 17 and 18, respectively.

The T20I series between West Indies and England follows the three-match ODI leg which the Windies won 2-1. The hosts won the first and third games by identical margins of eight wickets with England winning the second game by five wickets.

England get into the T20I series with the same 16-member squad that played the ODIs except white-ball captain Jos Buttler, who makes a return to the T20I setup after the T20 World Cup 2024. 

Buttler, who was initially named as captain of both the squads had to withdraw from the ODI leg as he was undergoing rehabilitation for a calf injury. He takes over the reins from Liam Livingstone who was the stand-in captain for the West Indies ODI series.

England have a young and inexperienced squad at their disposal with bowlers John Turner, Jafer Chohan and all-rounder Dan Mousley yet to make their T20I debut. 

Wicketkeeper-batter Jordan Cox and the all-rounder duo of Jacob Bethell and Jamie Overton made their T20I debut after the T20 World Cup in June and have played only two T20Is each.

This will be England’s first T20I game after their three-match series at home against arch-rivals Australia in September. The series ended in a 1-1 draw with the third and final match at Manchester being washed out due to rain.

Meanwhile, West Indies suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka in their last bilateral T20I series away from home last month. They lost the last two T20Is after a winning start at Dambulla.

Currently, England are ranked third in the ICC men’s T20I rankings whereas West Indies are one spot below at fourth as per the latest list.

Sri Lanka | 952/6d

Sri Lanka owns the record for the highest runs scored by a team in a single innings of a Test match with their mammoth 952/6d against neighbours India in Colombo. While Batting first, India had amassed 537/8 in the first innings of the first Test of a two-match series courtesy of centuries from Sachin Tendulkar, Navjot Sidhu and Mohammad Azharuddin.

What followed was a record-breaking batting display from Sri Lanka as they batted for close to three days to put on a gargantuan total of 952/6 in 271 overs. Opener Sanath Jayasuriya headlined the Lankan innings with a triple hundred (340) that included 36 fours and two sixes.

Jayasuriya was well-supported by Roshan Mahanama who scored 225 and the duo added 576 runs for the second wicket - the second-highest in Test cricket for any wicket. Aravinda de Silva made 126 while Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga and Mahela Jayawardene also chipped in with half-centuries. The match ended in a draw.

England | 903/7d

England’s 903/7d against Australia at The Oval in 1938 is second on the list of highest runs by a team in a single innings of a Test. After winning the toss, England batted Australia out of the contest in the fourth and final Test of Australia’s tour as they became the first team in international cricket to cross the 900-run mark.

England’s Leonard Hutton top-scored in the contest with a knock of 364 - the highest individual score in Test cricket then, hitting 35 fours along the way. Maurice Leyland and Joe Hardstaff also scored big hundreds to aid England’s cause.

In return, Australia stumbled as the scoreboard pressure got to them and they were bowled out for 201 and 123 in both innings. England won the Test match by a handsome margin of an innings and 579 runs to level the series 1-1.

England were also the first team to scale the 800-run mark in Test cricket when they amassed 849 against West Indies in a Kingston Test in 1930. Batting first, the openers for England got off to a good start and guided the visitors to 849 in the fourth Test of the West Indies tour. 

Andy Sandham scored a triple hundred (325) with his marathon knock including 28 fours while Les Ames scored a century and four other players also got into the act with half-centuries. 

Though the home side could manage only 286 in their first innings, they recovered well to score 408/5 in the second innings in pursuit of 836 as the match ended in a draw.

England also recorded 823/7d against Pakistan in 2024 - their third-highest score and fourth overall in Test cricket. With this, England made it their third appearance in the top-five list.

Chasing Pakistan’s first innings tally of 556, England were well-served by Harry Brook, who scored a triple century (317) and Joe Root finished with a double (262). Both players were involved in a fourth wicket association of 454 runs and that too in just 522 balls that deflated Pakistan. Both players aggregated 46 fours and three sixes together.

The worn-out Pakistan could score only 220 runs in their second batting essay and were handed an innings and 49-run defeat by the visitors.

The Three Lions defeated Ireland 2-0 in their UEFA Nations League 2024-25 League B Group 2 opener and later beat Finland with the scoreline in their second fixture.

With six points from two matches, England are currently placed second in the League B Group 2 standings.

On the other hand, Greece have received a massive blow as star forward Fotis Ioannidis sustained an injury during Panathinaikos' recent Greek Super League clash and has been omitted from the squad.
